David East is a news editor/professional video-editing trainer with extensive experience in developing newsroom systems and other products within the broadcast media industry, with particular focus in designing courses to help broadcasters with large workforces adapt to new working methods.
He is an Avid master Trainer and Expert in Avid Media Composer, Avid Symphony and Avid DS.
While at Avid he provided technical consultation, training, pre-sales and customer support. to many of their key clients . He implemented Avid train-the-trainer programs in all parts of Asia.
He was a specialist Consultant for Avid Technology Professional Services where he designed and implemented media asset management workflows in APAC. He also advised and trained customers with large newsroom and post production systems.
David designed the workflow for the world’s first use of Avid as an HD offline film editing system with Peter Jackson’s film unit in Wellington during the making of King Kong. This workflow is now the industry standard in the film world.
Before that David was a news and documentary editor for BBC News and Current Affairs. He edited for the national news and Newsnight and was principal editor for On the Record, Here and Now.
While at the BBC ,David pioneered Digital Non-Linear editing and created a training program for the transition to digital editing. He was the first person worldwide to transmit a TV program direct to air from an Avid Media Composer in 1993.
