Features
CineForm’s Neo3D delivers a comprehensive 3D editorial workflow in Final Cut Pro to reduce end-to-end costs for creating 3D content. While editing in FCP, Neo3D allows for 3D monitoring to an external display, plus real-time adjustment of convergence and color controls implemented as Active Metadata.
With Neo3D you get:
-
Full 3D editorial workflow in Final Cut Pro: CineForm 3D files are edited in Final Cut Pro the same as any CineForm 2D file including cuts and renders.
-
Display Support for most 3D monitors: Real-time assembly into various 3D HD frame formats during 3D decode: side-by-side, over-under, field interlace, or anaglyph. Allows use of inexpensive consumer monitors and glasses for 3D editorial.
-
Real-time Convergence Adjustment: Horizontal, vertical or rotational offsets between Left and Right eyes can be applied in real time during 3D decode based on Active Metadata parameters. Convergence adjustment in editorial can save substantial labor and equipment dollars normally spent on 3D conform.
-
Stereo or Individual Eye Color Adjustment: Active Metadata controls for CineForm 3D files adjust color parameters (white balance, RGB matrix, 3D LUTs) for both eyes simultaneously or individually.
-
First Light™ 3D: allows user viewing and adjustment of 3D Active Metadata parameters including i) stereo and individual eye color parameters, ii) convergence controls (horizontal, vertical, rotational), and iii) selection of stereo format (side-by-side, over-under, field interlace, or anaglyph) for 3D monitor. Adjustments are stored as "active" metadata with CineForm 3D files and are never flattened into the file.
-
Faster-than-real-time 3D file creation: Separate 3D encoder software creates CineForm 3D files at about 100 individual frames per second (twice as fast as real time) on a modern PC.
-
Includes Neo 4K: Neo3D includes all the 2D editorial and file creation features included in Neo4K to simplify associated 2D file creation.
Neo3D — The Basics: The underpinning of Neo3D is the creation and use of a CineForm 3D QuickTime file that contains temporally-aligned Left and Right eyes. Each eye contains full 1920x1080 spatial resolution. CineForm 3D files are created such that they are interpreted by all QuickTime applications, including Final Cut Pro, as if they were traditional 2D files. This "trickery" of the calling application happens beneath the QuickTime layer where CineForms Neo3D blends Left and Right eye information in various ways into 3D HD frames which are passed to (and through) the calling application without its knowledge.
Neo3D includes the following software components:
-
CineForm codec with Active Metadata processor
-
First Light 3D. End-user application to adjust non-destructive Active Metadata color parameters, convergence controls, and 3D monitor display format.
-
CineForm Mux3D: Creates CineForm stereo files from any two CineForm 2D files.
-
HD Link (Windows) or ReMaster (Mac). End-user application to manage 2D file capture and conversion to CineForm files from various formats. Allows selection of image pre-processing algorithms during conversion (spatial resampling, telecine removal, etc).
-
R2CF (Windows)*. Command-line conversion utility for Red One source formats
-
DPX2CF and CF2DPX (Windows)*. Command-line conversion utilities between CineForm files and DPX files.
* Included in ReMaster on Mac.
